College Profile

Jamalpur College was founded in 1969 by the employees of Railway Workshop, great intellectuals and senior citizens of the area. Some of the qualified and able teachers appointed in this college on 1.8.1969 in the name and style of “Jamalpur Evening College” especially to impart education to the employees of the Eastern Railway and their children along with the other general persons of the area in one of the Railway School. Later on it was shifted in own campus on 20th February,1990. On the UGC terms the name of the college has been changed as “Jamalpur College, Jamalpur” vide its letter no. F8-30/99(cpp-1) dated 19th August,2002. It is situated between 24”-22’ and 25”-49’ north latitude and between 85”-36’ and 86”-51’ east longitude. It extends over an area of-1419 Sq. kms and has a population according to its Census of 2001 ; 1,37,797 persons. The College is running in two shifts e.g. morning and day.

At Jamalpur College, Jamalpur, we believe in holistic education that goes beyond achieving academic excellence, and vocational training. Our philosophy is to realize the overall intellectual, creative, cultural and socio-political growth and development of both the students and the college community in its entirety. The College offers a wide range of courses, extra-curricular activities and technologically advanced facilities accessible to the faculty, the students and the support staff. Physical Aspects: Jamalpur, a town in the Munger subdivision, situated six miles south of mungerr,55 kms.from Bhagalpur and, 170 kms. from Patna, at a height of 173 feet above sea-level. The town, which is picturesquely situated at the foot of the Kharagpur hills, owes its development to its being at the headquarters of Mechanical Department of the East Indian Railway, now Eastern Railway. The workshops were first established here in 1862. In the east, glorious Kali Pahar Mountain is situated, in the west Railway line running from Munger to Jamalpur, in the north there is cultivated and bare land of Ramnagar & Bhagichak village and in south BMP colony from the established College.

Surroundings: The Kharagpur hills contain several hot springs, Bhimbhandh, Rishikund . They are probably due to deep seated thermodynamic action and helpful to get relief from many skin oriented diseases those who take bathe in it. The water is popular for eradicating most of the skin diseases and bowel disorders by drinking.
